EPFO Hits Record High in Claim Settlements After Process Reforms

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) settled a record 8.31 crore claims during the financial year 2025-26, up sharply from 6.01 crore claims in FY25, reflecting the growing use of its digital claim settlement system.

The government said the increase was supported by several reforms aimed at making provident fund services faster, simpler and more accessible for members.

The details were shared by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, which said EPFO has reduced paperwork, increased automation and removed several procedural hurdles that earlier delayed claim settlements.

The reforms are part of the government’s broader effort to improve service delivery for over seven crore EPF subscribers across the country.

Online Claim Process Made Simpler

One of the biggest changes introduced by EPFO was the removal of the requirement to upload an image of a cancelled cheque or an attested bank passbook while filing online claims.

Since bank account details are already verified during the KYC and UAN linking process, the additional document is no longer required.

According to the government, this change has enabled around 6.68 crore members to submit claims without uploading cheque images. It has also reduced claim rejections caused by poor-quality document uploads and helped speed up online processing.

In addition, 1.59 crore members were able to link their bank accounts with their UAN without requiring employer approval, making the process more convenient.

Faster Processing Through Automation

EPFO has also expanded the use of automated claim processing. During FY26, 71.11% of advance claims were processed automatically within three days, compared to 59.19% in the previous financial year.

The organisation processed 5.51 crore advance or partial withdrawal claims, allowing members quicker access to their provident fund savings when needed.

Automation has extended to other services as well. Around 70.55 lakh transfer claims were processed without intervention from members or employers, while 24.84 lakh transfer requests were initiated directly by members.

Nearly 29.34 lakh subscribers updated their profiles online without visiting an EPFO office. The latest figures indicate that EPFO is steadily moving towards a more digital and paperless system.

While members continue to report occasional technical issues with the portal, the organisation’s recent reforms are expected to reduce processing time, improve transparency and make provident fund services easier to access for millions of employees across India.
